CTDOT is Plans for Pavement Preservation Project for the 2027 in various towns in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for a Pavement Preservation Project for the 2027 construction season, in Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, and Newtown.

The project involves placing an ultra-thin bonded overlay on I-84 eastbound and westbound. The work on I-84 eastbound begins at the approach to Bridge No. 01198 (I-84 over Still River) (Mile Point 8.09) in Danbury, continues through Bethel and Brookfield, and ends in Newtown at the eastbound junction with Route 6 (Mile Point 15.27). The work on I-84 westbound begins in Newtown at the approach to Bridge No. 00505 (Route 816 (Church Hill Road) over I-84) (Mile Point 15.14), continues through Brookfield and Bethel, and ends in Danbury past Bridge No. 01197 (I-84 over Still River) (Mile Point 8.10). This project includes treatment of the on-ramps and off-ramps, and short-term, off-peak detour routes will be implemented should ramps need to be closed for construction activities.

This project will help the CTDOT achieve Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) goals, through pavement preservation treatments that extend the overall pavement life and improve pavement performance.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in October 2026, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with one hundred percent (100%) State funds.

It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community shares its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development. A public information meeting will not be conducted for this project as it is considered routine maintenance.
