Impeachment Filed Against Trump Over Conduct of War with Iran
Rep. John Larson warned that Trump "becomes more unhinged" by the day, placing the safety and security of millions of Americans at risk. Alongside the impeachment push, Larson urged Cabinet members to activate the 25th Amendment — a constitutional mechanism designed to strip a sitting president of power.
"Donald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office. And it's getting worse," Larson said in a statement, taking direct aim at what he characterized as an "illegal war in Iran" and sounding the alarm over its mounting toll on both American lives and the broader economy.
The Connecticut Democrat charged that Trump is "unable or unwilling to faithfully execute the responsibilities of the office and he is putting the nation's security and economy in jeopardy."
Despite Trump's announcement of a two-week pause in military operations against Iran, a wave of Democratic lawmakers refused to stand down Tuesday — sharpening their calls for his removal and citing alleged war crimes threats, erratic decision-making, and fundamental unfitness to hold the nation's highest office.
Their demands included the formal invocation of the 25th Amendment.
Under Section 4 of the amendment, the vice president and a Cabinet majority — or another body designated by Congress — hold the authority to declare that the president "is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." Should such a determination be reached, the vice president would immediately assume the role of acting president.
